The Nilgiri mountain ranges in Karnataka, Tamilnadu, and Kerala has got enormous blessings by the mother nature. Coonoor is a part of these magnificent ranges. The green mountains are covered by the splendid blue mist that takes you to the trance of ultimate happiness. You can feel it as a utopia!!

Located at the head of helical ravine at an altitude of 1800 meters above the sea level. A dreamland in motion, a tiny heaven on earth, a picturesque scenery all around, there is much to see at this lesser-known retreat. Coonoor is covered by blooms all over, a profusion of sunflowers, marigolds and rhododendrons, all growing wild. The verdant ranges of hills are carpeted with tea bushes, interspersed with towering green Eucalyptus and Silver Oaks, and wild animals. Life moves at gentle pace through these tea gardens. Coonoor is a next name to paradise for trekkers and naturalists because of its diversed and beautiful flora. The hills are evergreen, keeping the climate pleasant throughout the year.

SIM'S PARK


This botanical park is located at a height of 1780 meters above sea level. This park has resulted from the introduction of many rare species of trees belonging to Eucalyptus, Acacia, Pinus, Cinnamomum etc. There are beautiful terraces with colorful flowerbeds, lawns and rockeries inside this park. Most of the plants here are exotic and were introduced from around the world. There are rare economic trees like Rudraksh (bead tree), Cinnamomum, and graceful trees like Araucaria, Quercus, Phoenix, Magnolia, Pine, Turpentine, Tree ferns, Camellia etc

In the British era in 1874, Mr. J.D.Sims and Major Murray established his unusual park cum botanical garden. The plant kingdom here is enriched with more than 1000 species of herbs, creeps, and spices.



NILGIRI MOUNTAIN RAILWAY / DOORG


Enjoy the journey on the World Heritage Nilgiri Mountain Railway from Ooty to Coonoor. It is a vintage steam locomotive wherein you can sit and enjoy the scenic and green surroundings.

A toy train from Ooty to Mettupalayam is most popular. It’s undoubtedly a romance on wheels through this journey. It snakes you through the lush green courtyards, rolling tea estates and the jungles of pines and eucalyptus trees. This site is so charming that almost every filmmaker falls in love with it. This journey can make your honeymoon the most romantic one!

Doorg- is a ruined fort situated approx. 9 miles from Coonoor. It’s also called as ‘Bakasura Malai’ by the locals. This site is an attraction of tourists for its scenic greenery. The fort was used as an outpost by Tipu Sultan.



DOLPHIN'S NOSE VIEWPOINT


The Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint is 10 km from Coonoor. It not only provides a panoramic view of the vast expanse of the Nilgiri Hills but also of Catherine Falls. The tip of the peak resembles a dolphin’s nose, hence the name Dolphin’s Nose. It is an enormous rock formation that is unique in many ways. There are gigantic ravines found both to the left and right of Dolphin’s Nose. Equally noteworthy is a view of the inspiring Catherine Falls with its continuing stream several thousand meters below, which is located a relatively short distance away, opposite the Dolphin’s Nose. The hairpin turns and tea plantations on the way would make your drive to this spot a memorable one.



LAMB'S ROCK


On the way to Dolphin’s Nose, about 5½ km from Coonoor, lies Lamb’s Rock, which overlooks the Coimbatore plains, providing a spectacular view of the tea plantations. Located a little ahead of Lamb’s Rock is the Lady Canning’s Seat that offers a panoramic view of the Nilgiris.

Coonoor is referred to as the most oxygenated place in India because of its greenery all around. One cannot find a bare hill in Coonoor; almost every hill is covered by tea bushes, pines and eucalyptus trees. Still, we can say that this place is lesser exposed by the nature lovers and tourists. However, one cannot deny that it’s the second heaven.
